Recovering From PTSD: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (P.1)

Recovering from PTSD can be very hard. In this clip paul touches on a few techniques he has found useful when coaching iraq war and other veterans. By being present, and reminding one’s self that now is the only truth, one can help turn the tide of negative reflection/projection toward purpose and empowerment. www.paulchek.com www.chekinstitute.com www.ppssuccess.com

Life After West Point Military School

West Point exists to educate and train Cadets who are commissioned as Officers in the US Army upon Graduation. The commitment is for a total of 8 years, 5 of which are on active duty and 3 in the Reserves if you choose not to continue on active duty. A very few graduates may select commissioning in other services, primarily where one of their parents has served a career in another service.

The primary options for Army service are the choice of branch of service. You choose that at the beginning of your senior year. What are your army career options? After graduating from West Point, you will be commissioned in one of several Army branches. You may want a combat arms branch such as Infantry, Field Artillery, Armor, Air Defense Artillery, Aviation or Combat Engineers. You also may choose a combat support branch such as Signal, Military Police, Chemical or Military Intelligence.

You may also want to choose one of the combat service support branches such as Ordnance, Quartermaster, Transportation, Adjutant General or Finance. Opportunities are also available for the Medical Service Corps or the Judge Advocate General Corps later in your service career. You will advance to positions of greater responsibility in each branch based on your abilities.

West Point is looking for well rounded young men and women who want to serve as commissioned officers in the US Army. By well rounded I mean excellent students, excellent athletes, and excellent leaders. The focus is on service in the Army rather than on the college education part.

Now to answer your specific questions. Commissioned officers serve as leaders of the wonderful young men and women in our Army today. The military is organized into branches of service that are either directly involved on the front lines (infantry, armor, field artillery, etc) or operate in support roles (signal, ordnance, intelligence, aviation, etc.) I would go to the Army’s web site and check it out thoroughly.

As for percentage rates for West Point, there are two fascinating numbers. The first is the percentage rate of acceptance of offers of admission. In recent years (since 9/11) the percentage rate has been steady at about 85%. That is the highest acceptance rate of any college or university in the nation, topping Harvard, Princeton and all the rest. This says that those who apply to West Point know what they are doing and are very serious about it.

The second percentage rate of interest is the graduation rate. In recent years the graduation rate has held steady between 75% and 80% of those who enter graduate, in four years. The national average is 50% in SIX years.

If you chose not to stay beyond your five year active duty commitment the world is open to you. Experienced young Army officers are in fantastic demand everywhere in our business world and they have no problems supporting themselves or their families.

Finally, to answer your question about the potential for playing a professional sport following graduation. The Department of Defense has recently adopted a policy where a small number of Service Academy Graduates (not just West Point) to be released early from their active duty obligation to play professional sports. They do have to pay back the cost of their education (several hundred thousand $$) and serve in the Army Reserves in a recruiting role, but today there is a viable option for elite level athletes.

If you work for what you want then some day you will get it and when you do you will look back on your days at West Point and thank them for giving you the change to become something better to do something better with you life.

Dolls, Figurines, Truths Revealed – Yes, Virginia, There Is Military Intelligence!

The heart warming scenes of soldiers stepping off military aircraft from Iraq, on their way home after their tour of duty, but with some down time as relief aid in some ravaged area of flooded homes, washed away lives, volcanic eruptions or lives upturned into turmoil. And we highly commend the very highmilitary emotional inelligence that has these soldiers being allowed some down time to help people in need and who are showing their obvious appreciation. Soldiers forming lines to pass forward food cartons to out reached hands.

It is healing and curative to help villagers who show appreciation because you are needed and questioned for because of a disaster. Better therapy to have people bowing and smiling, children following the soldiers with a new toy or doll or chocolate. What wonderful mental therapy for all, and this should surely become a standard final part ofa war tour of duty. For studies show that of ten items experienced, we recall the last month most often. If some more time is spent after the hell, this could cut down on the terrible nights to come.

And this crucial curative use of hands and body by the soldiers will help remind a soldier, after duty tour about other careers, such as better dike construction, higher ground housing, doll maker, chocolate baker, candle lighting kind of person. Handling small things such as puppies or kids softens any soldier’s heart muscles, and is very restorative to all curing potential within us, and should be very much a part of military emotional intelligence strategy to return stateside more balanced people whose most recent behaviors may have them want to talk about that as well.

Or go back as a Peace Corp kind of warrior, hammer and saws, dolls and chocolate bars in hands. And some huge smiles waiting for you, wherever the next volcanoes blow, you will hear, you will know. They need a guy who gave it a try, liked how it made him feel, and now understands why. On Red Cross or Red Crescent, Salvation Army and we. Let the world also remember America stands to be free. From want, and from dread, and to show what we state, a doll for your angel, and food for your plate.

If this consideration could have been applied after Vietnam, how many lives could have been helped, one might imagine. But more vital to now, it is happening now, and we applaud you U S Military for this. Well thought out, please keep up such wise gentle coming down from hell to a chance to be loved somewhere away, feel so excellent, then come home. Well, done, US Military! See, Virginia?
